There is no place like home.

I was reading through some of the recent articles in the Jonstown Journal regarding people leaving the City. I happen to be one of those people, and I can't even express how much grief and stress leaving home has caused me over the years (adjusting to new areas, homesickness, etc.). Unlike most people, I did not leave right after high school. I tried to make it on my own there and had a very difficult time. Eventually, I made the decision to leave with the hopes that someday I could return. I loved living in Johnstown and so far no other place can compare. I know it is not the metropolitan area that I live in now, but that atmosphere gets old after awhile too. I would love to return home, settle down and raise my family there, but the odds of my husband and I both finding a decent paying job are slim to none. Even though I have enjoyed the experiences and opportunities that have come my way since leaving, I would rather return home and live amongst my family and friends.

Johnstown was a wonderful place to grow up. I have so many good memories and have made so many good friends. Fortunately, I have been able to hang on to most of the people that I grew up with (so far). I left home over eight years ago and try to visit on a regular basis. With each visit, I find that more and more people have left or are planning to leave. I think it is really sad to see what has happened to that town. Until and if I can return, no matter where I go, it will always be home to me. I am glad to see that other people that have left also feel the same way.
